Kenyi Matia Okuchu: For Commissioner Magwi County

Sosa News Agent – November 27, 2009 – Fargo ND, A serving political member of SPLM/A, Kenyi Mattia Okucu declared his intention for candidacy for the Commissioner of Magwi County today November 27, 2009. Kenyi’s announcement was fostered by his political ambitions of joining his people back home and providing wide range of services in the area of security, border issues, Agriculture, Education, employment, healthcare system, and grassroots decision making process. He believes his decision to run for this high profile government position is to connect and work actively with concerned citizens across the county to revive democratic process.
Recently in October, Kenyi visited Magwi County and met with several groups of community leaders, youth groups, businessmen, women representatives and other political figures including the incumbent Commissioner of Magwi County. Prior to official declaration of the intent candidacy, majority of the people he met including the incumbent commissioner said he is moving in the right direction and is generating a beneficial initiative to citizens’ involvement in the democratic process in Magwi County.
Before he left Magwi County, he had organized campaign committees, which are currently active on the ground. Subsequent to his trip from Magwi County, Kenyi travelled to Japan and China for a research in relation to the economic development of East Asian countries.
Sosa News Agent said Kenyi declared officially intention for candidacy in the 2009 Ma’di National Convention in Fargo, North Dakota and anticipating to affirm the same message to Acholi National Convention in Omaha, Nebraska tomorrow. His campaign will ultimately hit the ground in scheduled January tour, holding local democratic discussions with all Payam officials within the county. The sources said he will be accompanied by some of his political strategists and campaign managers.
Kenyi has extensive work experiences both in business related institutions and in political sphere. For the past two years, he worked as a quality analyst and process improvement Engineer for Honeywell International. His experiences have gone up to international level. He served as a Resettlement Field Manager/ Field Team Leader with the Joint Voluntary Agency (JVA); and Refugees Resettlement Specialist/consultant with the United Nation High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
Kenyi has tremendously broad political and civil engagement over the years. Between 1991and1993, he enlisted to SPLA and was trained in Isoke (Torit District). While in service, he worked as a secretary at Mere Prison in Kajo-Keji and a GIS officer in Pageri. As a Counter Intelligent Officer, he assisted in mobilization, integrations and Training SPLA Officers for the field.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Management from Dunwoody College of Technology in Minneapolis, MN.
Kenyi Matia Okucu has been an active figure in politics, campaigns and government service in the south for nearly 18 years, making social sector and democracy work for the benefit of his people. Kenyi and his wife Josephine Kenyi have been married for 15 years with four children. He was raised in Pageri-Nyongwa area in Magwi County. His father was a teacher and his mother was in ceramic business.
